Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

Scared that a pregnant woman will come into your class and you don’t feel confident enough to protect her and the baby? Or maybe you want to teach prenatal and postnatal classes or add some extra skills to your existing studies.

This comprehensive Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training will include how to teach pre-natal yoga to women in all stages of pregnancy. You will also learn how to teach post-natal yoga. This training program will address the physiological, emotional and energetic aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.

  • Explore poses (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) for maximum safety, and that are beneficial for pregnancy
  • Learn basic anatomy and the stages of pregnancy (including physical and hormonal changes)
  • Learn cautions and contraindications of poses
  • Practice hands-on assists for pregnant women
  • Learn sequences to alleviate a variety of discomforts: nursing, lower back issues, and core integration
  • Learn from our Doulas on how to support women through all stages of their pregnancy and after the birth of their child

What can this Training do for you?

This program has given tools for yoga teachers for when a pregnant woman comes into their class – they now know how to modify poses and what poses to avoid. It’s given added skills to doulas and midwives, and it’s helped teachers supplement their income by teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga classes.

The Pre and Post-Natal Yoga Teacher Training at Chrysalis Yoga exceeded my expectations. I am grateful I had the opportunity to take the weekend teacher training course as a complement to my 200-hour yoga teacher training. Angela Jackson is a gifted teacher and program facilitator. She has extensive knowledge in the area of pre- and post- natal yoga, and equipped me with the skills to create a supportive environment for expectant or newly delivered mothers. The program is well structured, striking a content balance between anatomy and physiology, yoga asana, pranayama, and sequencing. My training cohort also had the pleasure of observing Angela’s regular prenatal class to complement ‘traditional’ learning with experiential learning. I walked away from this teacher training as a stronger, more knowledgeable yoga teacher, able to support women in all stages of their pregnancy.
I took the Prenatal YTT with Angela because I wanted to expand on what I had learned during my 200-hr YTT. I love working with moms, moms to be, and children so this presented as a perfect training for me to do. Angela was very knowledgeable and was a patient, effective and thorough teacher. I walked away with so much information about yoga and pregnancy and felt comfortable to teach expecting mothers. The class size was perfect, and the training itself is very hands-on and engaging. Prenatal yoga is a very special type of class, and it's a joy to be able to teach it confidently!
I learned so much from the prenatal yoga teacher training with Angela at Chrysalis! Angela is an experienced teacher with a wealth of knowledge on all things pregnancy and postnatal. The binder for the course contained valuable information about pose modifications, sequencing and common conditions experienced by pregnant women attending class. Angela gave us lots of time to ask questions, practice sequencing and even had us come into the modified versions of poses to experience how a pregnant student might feel (with the help of a stuffed soccer ball ?). I felt more confident assisting pregnant students afterwards and would recommend this course for any teacher who is looking to learn more about pregnancy and prenatal yoga.

Angela Jackson
Program Director

Angela began practicing yoga years before she was pregnant, but when she was expecting her babies, her yoga practice evolved and became so much more amazing. After she had completed her teacher training with Cynthia Funk at the Yoga Sanctuary, she knew she wanted to teach Prenatal Yoga. What Angela didn’t realize initially was how much she would love sharing her experiences, learning from her students’ experiences and being a part of their journeys. When she teaches Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga, she taps into an intuitive side of herself and feels so at home. Angela wants her students to feel powerful, strong, relaxed and grounded. She wants them to love their pregnancies just like she did. She wants them to be excited about their impending labour just like she was. And she wants them to feel supported and connected in their new lives as Mothers. When she guides her students in their practice, she feels like they are also guiding her as a woman and a Mother….and this is why she loves teaching! She wants to share the passion and love she has for teaching prenatal and postnatal with other soon-to-be teachers as teaching this form of yoga is a such a gift and a rewarding experience.
